Are there any ADHD programmers out there? I'm hoping to talk to a few, trade tips on how to manage a work day. I've noticed that the usual time management structures don't work. One, we often have to keep emails open so that we immediately know about apps being down, so there goes only checking a couple of times a day. I've also tried scheduling when in a day I would work on a project, but that doesn't do too well either; see #1 as to why. And so on. Any tips would be appreciated.

FW: Conversation with Sargeant, Becky
Lol, I'm surprised Becky never said anything earlier lol.
Even after all of these years of trying to condition myself to think inside of my head, it still feels unnatural to do so. It just does not 'feel' right to have only had the thought inside of my head. It's not completely 'thought out' until I have spoken it.
Thanks ….

Sargeant, Becky [2:43 PM]:
Do you realize you are (8) out loud? :)
Collins, Monica P. [2:44 PM]:
Yeah. I try to do it quietly. It's probably more noticable at the moment cuz it's really quiet right now.
Sargeant, Becky [2:45 PM]:
I hear it frequently, but just wondered if you realized - I've worked with people before and they didn't realize - they thought they were just mouthing - I'd tell them they were singing out loud and they'd be :$
just curious is all
Collins, Monica P. [2:47 PM]:
yeah, i know. I don't have much of an 'in my head' voice, which is why I'm always talking to myself lol.
Sargeant, Becky [2:47 PM]:
I can relate sometimes - I get mine from for the most part living alone
Collins, Monica P. [2:47 PM]:
lol
Unfortunately for me, I'm wired that way. Quite a few abstract thinkers have the same quirk.
Sargeant, Becky [2:48 PM]:
right

My new mentor
I had a meeting with Mickey Bradford this morning. This is going to go very well, if I do say so myself. He has coached some ADHDers in the past, so he’s well versed in that. That will help immensely. He has already warned me that he gives assignments to his mentees, which I think is a good thing; IMO, things stick better with people when you are more involved with it. I am supposed to come up a 5-year plan. I have been trying to locate my list that I did a few years ago (to the point of obsession, meaning that I’ve gotten anything else done), but I can’t locate it at all. I just came across a printed copy of it a few weeks ago, and wouldn’t you know that I threw it out (figures). As it was, I had not kept up with that one at all.
This will be a good thing.
